This is the heart of any music system.  Generally they switch between audio devices and amplify the signal.  Stereo amplifiers today can offer more!  Some have the ability to switch video and others will allow you to add extra rooms.  When choosing an amplifier consider:

    *  the type of speakers you will be using

    *  the type of music you generally listen to

    *  the volume you wish to listen to

    *  how large your room is

    *  if a turntable will be part of the system.
